Kilimanjaro National Park

Overview

Brief History

Kilimanjaro National Park, established in 1973, covers 1,668 km² in northern Tanzania. Managed by TANAPA, it encompasses Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 meters. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the park attracts trekkers and adventurers worldwide to its diverse ecosystems, from rainforests to alpine deserts.

Climate and Accessibility

Accessible by road from Arusha (50 km, 1 hour) or Kilimanjaro International Airport (45 km). The dry seasons (January-March, June-October) are best for trekking, with temperatures ranging from 15-30°C at lower altitudes to below 0°C at the summit. The wet season (November-December, April-May) brings 1,000-2,000 mm rainfall, making trails slippery.
